Why Two Swim Spas Can Differ by $30,000
You can put a $50,000 swim spa and an $80,000 swim spa side by side and, from the deck, they look nearly identical. The price gap comes from four things.
Length is the biggest cost driver. A 12-foot swim spa uses less acrylic, less steel frame, less cabinet material, less water, less insulation, and a smaller pump than a 19-foot model. That’s why the J-12 Flow starts at $36,099 while the J-19DT PowerPro tops out at $80,099. Length also determines how much real swim distance you get. A 12-foot spa is fine for kids and casual swimmers. A 19-foot spa is a genuine training pool.
Swim current technology matters more than jet count. PowerPlay uses the CX swim jet system, which delivers a solid current at entry-level pricing. PowerActive uses the AX system with the SteadySwim buoyancy jet, which keeps you suspended and stable during longer swims. PowerPro uses the DX swim blade, which delivers a smooth, high-flow current that competitive swimmers actually train against. If you’re going to swim for fitness three or more times a week, the jump from PowerPlay to PowerPro pays back in usability.
Dual-temperature models cost more but do more. The J-19DT lets you set one temperature for the swim end and a warmer temperature for the soak end. That means one person can swim laps at 85°F while another soaks at 102°F in the same spa. In practice, this replaces both a lap pool and a hot tub, and that’s why it commands the top of the pricing range.
Features and amenities stack up. Upgraded LED interior and exterior lighting, the ProTouch touchscreen control, WaterWatch fitness tracking, and the Jacuzzi PowerTone fitness kit all add cost. The Jacuzzi True Water System is available on select models and dramatically reduces chemical costs. Our advice: prioritize the swim system first, then features. A basic PowerPro will outperform a fully-loaded PowerPlay for actual swimming.
One-Time Costs Beyond the Swim Spa Itself
Swim spas cost more to install than hot tubs because they’re bigger, heavier, and more logistically involved. Here’s what to budget on top of the sticker price.
Delivery is free within Prince George city limits at Eden Spas. Delivery to Quesnel, Williams Lake, Fort St John, Smithers, Mackenzie, and Chetwynd is quoted case by case, typically $400 to $800 for a swim spa depending on distance. Almost all swim spa deliveries need a crane. A filled 19-foot swim spa weighs more than 20,000 pounds. Crane rental usually runs $1,000 to $2,000 for the day. Our team walks every install site before delivery and books the crane accordingly.
Site preparation typically runs $2,000 to $6,000 for a swim spa. This is significantly more than a hot tub because the footprint is bigger and the load is heavier. A concrete slab is the only option we recommend for swim spas over 14 feet. Spa pads and decks aren’t rated for the sustained weight. Slab pricing depends on size and site conditions. Electrical hookup runs $1,500 to $2,500 for most homes. Every Jacuzzi swim spa needs a dedicated 50-amp or 60-amp 240V line depending on the model, plus a separate line for the optional second heater if you add one. If you’re adding a heat pump for winter efficiency (recommended in Northern BC), that adds another $2,000 to $4,000 in electrical work but pays back in operating costs. City of Prince George electrical permits typically run $80 to $150.
Cover, steps, and accessories. A quality insulated cover comes standard with every Jacuzzi. Cover lifters run $400 to $800 for a swim spa, larger than hot tub versions. Steps and safety rails add another $300 to $500. A chemical starter kit for the first year is around $200. All in, first-year accessories add up to $900 to $1,600.

A J-14 PowerActive (5-seat, PowerActive Collection, 14 feet) is $50,299. Add $2,500 for electrical, $3,500 for a concrete slab and site prep, and $1,000 for accessories, and you’re at roughly $57,300 upfront. Monthly running costs at $220 per month over 10 years add another $26,400. Factor in one cover replacement around year six at $1,000, and your total 10-year cost of ownership is about $84,700.
That works out to $706 per month averaged over 10 years, or about $23 per day. Compare that to a competition pool membership plus a hot tub plus lap swim time at the community centre, and the math starts to work.
